Thank you for a real good time ...

We had a blast playing at Copperfield's in Boston last Friday with our buddies, the Peacheaters. It was a benefit for the Boston Food Bank, and although the stage was impossibly crowded with gear and musicians, both bands rocked it out for a good four and a half hours of music.

Playing Dead had a special guest, Steve Liesman, sitting in on guitar. John Bennett from the Peacheaters joined us on harp for "Mr. Charlie" and we got half the Peacheaters up for a wild 30-minute jam at the end of the night.

Here's a sample of Bertha from our set ...

And, for the gearheads out there, Santa came early for Jimbo, he got a new Modulus guitar, which sounds terrific.

Happy Holiday to all and we'll see you Friday Dec. 21 at Harpers Ferry. Santa will be in attendance.

I was honored for the second time to play with this fine, fine band.

What happened is Jim originally couldn't make it. So I planned to come up from NY to sit in. When Jim found out he make it (unclear if his schedule changed before or after he got his new guitar) I offered to step back. Jim would have none of it. He insisted I come up and play with the band and offered to sit out for most of the night, with him just playing a few tunes. I'd have none of that, so we decided we'd all play.

Never played Copperfield's before so I was hoping for two things: a big stage and at least three good monitors. Instead, it was a very small stage and two mediocre monitors.

Which is to say, we couldn't really move around much or hear each other very well. In the end none of that seemed to matter much and I had a good ol' time. Jim and I tried to be very respectful of each other musically, and we each laid back a bit, leaving space for the other (at least that's how I thought I played. We'll see if that's true in the mix.)

Unfortunately, for a few songs, the techno-demons were alive and a massive bass feedback erupted on the stage. (Don't know if the crowd could hear it.) Owing to many years of experience with me, Victor at first thought it was me and turned to me with a scowl. Owing to many of experience with me, I just assumed he was right. (I never have mastered the gear thing.) I turned all the way down, and eliminated myself as a suspect and turned to Scott. To make a long story short, it was a poorly placed monitor by the drummers. Tony ripped the wires out and we were on our way.

There's a lesson in there someplace about drummers, I'm just not sure what it is.

It was great to meet the Peacheaters and listen to their music. Thanks to Playin' Dead for having me and a real good time.
